About Dr. Scott Melligan

Dr. Scott Melligan left a successful career in the hospitality industry in favor of Emergency Management in October 2001. He immediately leveraged his hotel experience to provide Mass Care domain-feeding and sheltering for disaster victims in work with American Red Cross Disaster Services. After a decade serving with the Red Cross as disaster responder and trainer/instructor, he joined the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency as responder and instructor. During that time Dr. Melligan built on his BA in Intelligence Studies with a Master of Arts in Disaster and Emergency Management, followed by a Doctor of Public Safety. His career in FEMA grew in conjunction with his academic pursuits, through positions in Mass Care, Individual Assistance, Interagency Recovery Coordination, and his current position as a Critical Infrastructure Protection specialist. 

Education

MA in Criminal Justice, and Certificates in Terrorism Studies, Online Teaching, and Online Curriculum Development.

Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) credentialed by the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) and is recognized as an Executive Emergency Manager by the North Carolina Emergency Management Association.

Professional Activities

International Association for Intelligence Analysis (IAFIE), and Epsilon Pi Phi, the national honor society of emergency management. Dr. Melligan is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps
