Smith, Brandon

Coordinator of Theatre Major, Assistant Professor

Brandon Smith has worked professionally as an educator, director, playwright and actor for over ten years. Professor Smith has worked as an actor in numerous regional and national commercials, as a voiceover artist, as a motion capture artist for video games, and as an actor with Dallas Shakespeare, The Plano Repertory Theatre, The Tyrone Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, and Playmaker’s Repertory Theatre in Chapel Hill. Brandon is currently writing a number of new plays, working on two books, and conducting research on early Mayan culture and storytelling. He is a member of Actor’s Equity Association.

B.F.A. in Theatre, Midwestern State University

Professional Affiliations: Texas State Vice Chair (KCACTF, 2011-12), KCACTF Respondent (Region VI, 2012), QEP (Quality Enhancement Plan) Committee Member (Bandersnatch, 2012), UGROW Member - a month-long cross-disciplinary research and build project with engineering and theatre students to create puppets and mechancal creatures (Bandersnatch, 2011), Co-founder of Flying Man Productions (2006-present), Adjudicator for high school one act play festivals (Texas University Interscholastic League, 2006-12), Respondent (KCACTF, Region IV, current).



Lectures and Appearances: Cross-Disciplinary research (MSU Faculty Forum, 2012), COPLAC National Conference (2012), featured artist and educator recognized for acheivements in cross-disciplinary research (COPLAC website, 2011-2012), Guest Artist and Director (Summer Opera Workshop, Pacific Lutheran University 2010-12), Guest Artist and Director for Mask Improvisation workshops (Keller ISD Summer Spotlight Program, 2012), “Fundamentals of Acting” workshop for high school students (Mansfield Summitt High School, 2005), “OAP (One Act Play) the Movie” documentary film workshops (Texas Educational Theatre Association Convention, 2008).

2016 Brevard College First United Methodist Teacher of the Year Award; 2014 Brevard College Outstanding Faculty of the Year; KCACTF Distinguished Director Award (Bandersnatch, 2012);The Kennedy Center’s National Distinguished New Work Award and award for Achievement in Directing (2012); Richard A. Weaver Award For Excellence in Directing (2010), "CBS Soap Star Screen Test" (Final Five, 2004)
