The Brevard College women’s soccer team (11-0, 5-0 USA South) kicked off Homecoming 2025 festivities on the right foot, taking care of Mary Baldwin (9-3-1, 4-1 USAS), 4-1 to remain perfect in the 2025 season.
With the win on Saturday, Brevard extends its unbeaten streak to 29 matches dating to the end of the 2023 season. Through 11 matches this Fall, Brevard has outscored opponents 55-3 and continues to rank among the nation’s statistical leaders. BC’s 11 wins to start the 2025 campaign is also the program’s best-ever start to a season in the NCAA era.
The two teams went back and forth early in the heavyweight USA South conference battle before Mikayla Zvekan scored her first of three goals on a nifty pass from Mikayla Rubin, putting the Tornados ahead in the 25th minute.
The two sides remained scoreless through the rest of the first half and early into the second before Olivia Guillermo capitalized inside the box on a cross from Brennan Howell, giving the Tornados a two-goal edge in the 52nd minute.
The floodgates opened for the Tornados following Guillermo’s goal, as Zvekan found the back of the net in the 80th minute off an assist by Natalie DeBella. Zvekan capped off her immaculate effort in the 84th minute, netting her third goal of the game to all but end things in favor of the Tornados.
Brevard once again held a commanding edge in the shots department, tallying 21 to Mary Baldwin’s eight. The Fighting Squirrels’ keeper Amelia Cross kept seven shots from finding the back of the net, but let up the four goals to the Tornados’ offensive attack. Nunez denied four Mary Baldwin shots in the winning effort while letting up the lone goal late in the contest.
With the hat trick on Saturday, Zvekan is now the leader in career goals in the Brevard women’s soccer record books. She holds the record with 26 career goals. The senior also holds the career mark in points and assists. Guillermo’s goal to add to the Brevard lead was her third of the season.
Brevard looks to continue its impressive run in 2025 on Wednesday, October 15th at Salem College at 3 p.m.
