Brevard College women’s soccer freshman Bella Labno scored her first collegiate goal and the BC defense notched its second shutout of 2026 as the Tornados (2-0-1) pushed past Guilford (1-2-1), 1-0 in the first home match of the season on Saturday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
Labno, a native of Naples, Florida, provided a spark for the Tornado offense off the bench, firing three total shots off with two reaching the frame.
Abby Nunez (2-0-1) recorded her second shutout of the season, stopping all three Quaker on-target shot attempts while also being credited with the assist on Labno’s match-winner.
A grand total of seven Tornados attempted multiple shots, as BC applied attacking pressure throughout the match. Mikayla Rubin and Peyton Coggins fired a team-leading five shots off apiece, as the Tornados totaled 28 shots and 13 shots-on-goal compared to Guilford’s five and three.
Madison Motto kept the Quakers in it, saving 12 shots. Maddie Fella and Ashlyn Kahre totaled two shots apiece for Guilford.
Brevard held a 9-1 shot edge in the first half and won a pair of corner kicks, however neither side was able to break through in the first 45 minutes. BC attempted seven total shots in the first 11 minutes of action in the second period before a Guilford foul set up a free kick attempt for the Tornados.
Nunez lined the ball up and fired a shot off the Quaker defense, and the ball trickled to the feet of Labno, who placed it into the back of the net for the game’s first score.
BC kept the attacking pressure applied for the remainder of the contest, while Nunez turned away the only other on-target attempt that she faced.
Saturday’s victorious effort pushes BC’s unbeaten stretch in regular season matches to 39, dating back to Oct. 14, 2023. The Tornados also extend their 33-match home unbeaten mark that began on Oct. 18, 2022.
Brevard is back to work on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, squaring off against Carolina University.
