For Randy Ward ’82, his time at Brevard College helped lay the foundation for a career built around solving problems, taking on challenges, and continually learning.
Randy arrived at Brevard College in the fall of 1980, drawn to the College’s small student body, mountain setting, and the opportunity to compete on the cross country team. While primarily focused on business courses, Randy immersed himself in campus life. He competed in cross country and track, participated in Circle K International (CKI), the collegiate service organization of Kiwanis International, contributed writing and cartoons to the student newspaper, and was named Work-Study Student of the Year.
After graduating in 1982, Randy continued his education at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His interests in both business and engineering eventually led him toward entrepreneurship and a career that allowed him to combine the two. Today, Randy owns multiple companies and serves as Senior Designer and Lead Consultant for Pharmacy Design, Workflow and Operations, helping pharmacies and other businesses turn ideas into practical solutions. His RxWorkz LLC engineering company is based in Monument, Colorado.
From designing prototypes to sales and consulting, Randy is involved in nearly every aspect of his business. His work has taken him across the country helping retail, chain, and specialty pharmacies improve operations, implement high-volume systems, and adapt to new technologies. But for Randy, the most rewarding part of his career is the relationships he has built along the way.
“I really enjoy getting to know the people whom we work with. We hear their vision, the problems they have with their operations, and work together to try and solve them.”
Looking back, Randy credits his years at Brevard College with teaching him lessons that extend well beyond the classroom. The demands of being a student-athlete taught him about hard work, balance, and perseverance, while his experiences across campus helped broaden his interests and perspective.
His advice to today’s Brevard College students is simple: network, be honest, and be willing to admit what you do not know. For Randy, relationships have remained one of the most important parts of both his career and his connection to the College.
“My teammates and friends from my BC days are still friends today,” Randy shared. “The opportunities that BC has given me molded me into who I am today, and for that, I think giving back in some ways helps keep that process moving forward.”
