Brevard College announced the establishment of The Rita Hayes Endowed Scholarship that will work to assist students with their degree completion.

The inspiration for creating the fund came from Michele and Marvin Barg, community members and longtime friends of the college. The scholarship honors the work and legacy of Rita Hayes, a former adjunct faculty member at Brevard College in the fine arts department.

“Rita Hayes was an amazing instructor who worked tirelessly to teach her students the skills that are required to be exceptional musicians. She always instilled a belief that students had within themselves everything required to be outstanding artists. Rita had a profound impact on our lives and it is our hope that this scholarship named in her honor will have the same positive impact on the lives of Brevard College students for generations to come,” said the Bargs.

Once fully funded, the Rita Hayes Endowed Scholarship will be available for award to a full-time Brevard College student who is nearing the completion of their degree. Jeff Joyce, Director of Development at Brevard College, said, “relationships play a profound role in the Brevard College experience. It is an honor to help community members celebrate the relationships they have found and experienced at the college.”
