Brevard College Football Releases 2022 Schedule

BCFB

The Brevard College football program, under the direction of Head Coach Bill Khayat, has announced its schedule for the Fall 2022 season of competition.

BC’s slate features five home games and five road tests in its 10-week regular season schedule, as the Tornados eye a USA South Conference Championship and an automatic bid into the 2022 NCAA DIII Football Tournament.

“The 2022 schedule is a demanding combination of the old and the new,” commented Coach Khayat. “The first two games of the season against Shorter and Apprentice are a replication of last year’s openers and will give us the opportunity to reverse the outcomes with victories. We drew a familiar opponent for the ODAC crossover game in its newest member – former USA South rival Averett. The familiarity takes a pause with our not playing N.C. Wesleyan for the first time in six seasons. To close out the schedule, the latest addition to the USA South, the impressive Blazers of Belhaven University, will be our home field opponents. We are eager to get back into action and welcome the cheers of Nado Nation.”

Brevard will open its season up at Ives-Lemel Family Field on Saturday, September 3, welcoming the Shorter University Hawks for a 1 p.m. kickoff. BC made the trip to Rome, Georgia to open up last season, as the Tornados will match up with the NCAA DII Hawks for the third time in program history next Fall.

BC will compete in its final two non-conference games on the road, as the Tornados first make a trip to Newport News, Virginia to take on The Apprentice School on Saturday, September 10 at 1 p.m. The Tornados will be looking to avenge an overtime home defeat from a season ago.

Brevard will then match up with Averett University in Danville, Virginia under-the-lights on Saturday, September 17 at 6 p.m. Averett, a former USA South opponent and the newest member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference come Fall 2022, lost in resounding fashion to the Tornados in the regular-season finale last Fall at Ives-Lemel Family Field. Brevard claimed a dominant 40-3 win over the Cougars, its largest margin of victory over Averett across the schools’ five meetings.

Following its bye week, Brevard will jump fully into its seven-game USA South schedule, beginning on Saturday, October 1 against Greensboro College at home, with 2 p.m. slated as kickoff time. Brevard is undefeated against the Pride since joining the USA South Conference. BC then welcomes Methodist University on Saturday, October 8 at 2 p.m., part of Brevard College’s Homecoming 2022 festivities. The Tornados narrowly fell to the Monarchs in Fayetteville last Fall, 31-27.

The Tornados will then hit the road for a matchup with defending USA South champion Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama on Saturday, October 15 at 1 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. CT. The Tornados and Hawks have matched up in some tight classics over the last few years, with Huntingdon taking the last meeting in Brevard last Fall, 21-14.

Brevard will return home to face LaGrange on Saturday, October 22 for a 3 p.m. kickoff time before closing the month of October out with a trip to Maryville, Tennessee to face the Scots of Maryville College on Saturday, October 29 at 2 p.m. The Tornados were able to defeat both the Panthers and the Scots a season ago, impressively shutting out Maryville 31-0 last Homecoming.

Brevard and Belhaven University will meet for the first time ever on the gridiron, as the Blazers enter the USA South for their first season in Fall 2022. The contest will be held on Saturday, November 5 at 1 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field, serving as Brevard’s senior day.

The Tornados close out the season with a trip to Buena Vista, Virginia to take on Southern Virginia University on Saturday, November 12 at 1 p.m. Brevard was able to take a close 7-3 decision last Fall in Brevard.

The winner of the competitive USA South Conference will earn an automatic bid into the 2022 NCAA DIII Tournament, with first-round action beginning on Saturday, November 19.

The Tornados come into 2022 on the heels of three-consecutive winning seasons, a first in program history. Brevard’s six conference wins a season ago set a new program record for single-season conference victories. The Tornados earned numerous accolades during the Fall 2021 season, including eight All-Conference selections, three All-Region honorees, two Cliff Harris Award nominees, and a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.
