The Brevard College Music Department will present a Wind Ensemble concert on Thursday March 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Scott Concert Hall in the Porter Center for the Performing Arts.
A crystal prism reveals brilliant shades and facets of color. The kaleidoscopic elements of a prism will be represented by instrumentalists grouped in duets, trios, and smaller chamber ensembles. The audience will experience a wide variety of musical color, timbre, and distinctive subtle textures.
“This is our first concert featuring this unique approach to programming. Our students are very excited to share their hard work with a live audience. This will be the first spring concert performance in nearly three years due to COVID-19 precautions,” said Dr. Eric Peterson, Director of Bands at Brevard College.
The concert will feature performances by the Brevard College Chamber Winds, Guitar Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Tornado Drumline, and Percussion Ensemble. The diverse program includes Aaron Perrine’s beautiful “Life Painting for Wind Ensemble,” Steven Bryant’s “Duet for Two Cellos” brilliantly reimagined for Alto and Baritone Saxophone, Miles Davis’ arrangement of the 1926 jazz standard, “Bye Bye Blackbird” for jazz combo, and works for percussion ensemble by Dr. Nathan Tingler, Instructor of Percussion at Brevard College.
The concert is free and open to the public. Seating is limited to 500 patrons, and all audience members must wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status.
