Three Brevard College student singers participated in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Mid-Atlantic Region Student Auditions held virtually March 9-19, 2022. These singers were selected to perform in this round of auditions by scoring in the top of their categories at the state level. The results for two of the three students qualify the singers to advance to the next round of competition, the National Semi-Finals which are scheduled for July, 2022 in conjunction with the NATS National Conference in Chicago, Ill.

Ann Marie Bates is a Junior Music Major and a student of Dr. Kathryn Gresham. Ann Marie placed 2nd in Adult Classical and 3rd in Adult Musical Theater, categories which do not advance to the national level.

Ishmeal Parsons is a Junior Music Major and a student of Dr. David Gresham. Ishmeal placed 1st in Hall Johnson Spirituals and 2nd in Junior Music Theatre.

Talley Sugg is a Senior Theatre Major and Music Minor and a student of Dr. Brittnee Siemon. Talley placed 3rd in Senior Musical Theater.

The students’ achievement  in the national competition reflects the quality of their education and shows the strength of the vocal program at Brevard College. Dr. David Gresham said, “800 singers, selected as the best from the region, participated in this event and only the top in each category advanced to the national round.”
