The Brevard College women’s tennis team (7-9, 1-1 USAS) dominated LaGrange College (2-5, 2-3 USAS) in a USA South Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in windy conditions at the McCoy Tennis Complex. The win marked the fifth victory in the last six overall contests for the Tornados. Brevard ran out to a 3-0 lead, sweeping doubles play. The number one doubles team of freshman Sophie Trantham and junior Hamrick Perry were flawless with a 8-0 win over LC’s Maurie White and Madi Hite. In number two doubles, freshman Hannah Hersh and junior Brooke Garland earned a 8-2 win. Junior Alli Kogoy and sophomore Melody Ferguson won via default in no. 3 doubles to round out the doubles sweep. The Tornados then dominated singles play, not losing a set and outscoring the Panthers 60-2 in total games. Hersh (no. 1 singles), Kogoy (no. 3 singles), and Trantham (no. 5 singles) all won their respective matches 6-0, 6-0 without dropping a single game. Perry finished off her opponent 6-1, 6-0 in number two singles. Garland rounded out the clean sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in number four singles. Ferguson won via default in number six singles to complete the 9-0 win for the Tornados. The win marked the second straight victory at home for the Tornados who were able to fly their symbolic “W” flag once again high above the McCoy Tennis Complex on the Brevard College campus. BC returns to action with a conference road trip at Berea on Saturday, April 2 in Berea, Kentucky. The next home match for the Tornados is scheduled for Friday, April 15 vs. Huntingdon at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
