Senior shortstop Jason Jucker’s five-hit performance last Sunday vs. Allegheny College – which tied three others including MLB draftee Champ Stuart’s single-game mark – earned Brevard College baseball its second all-time DIII-era national honoree, as Jucker earned a spot on D3baseball.com’s Team of the Week.
Jucker, a native of Altamonte Springs, Florida, has kicked off the 2022 season in superb fashion, batting 9-for-19 (.474) through Brevard’s first five contests. The senior captain had nine RBI, scored four runs, and totaled three extra-base hits – a pair of doubles and a triple. In a wild, 11-9 defeat to the Gators in extra innings on Sunday, Jucker accumulated a career 5-for-6 performance, surpassing his previous career-high of four hits set last season vs. Huntingdon (May 1, 2021).
Jucker’s five-hit performance tied him in the overall NCAA-era record book with Stuart, who was drafted in the sixth round of the 2013 MLB Draft (176th overall pick) and sustained a six-year professional career.
Jucker and the rest of the 2022 Brevard College baseball team (4-1) will be back in action this weekend with a three-game non-conference series vs. Washington and Lee University, beginning on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Gil Coan Field.
