July 18-22: 2016 Campus Adventures

Campus Adventures has been a part of Brevard College summer programs since the early 1990s, and it is back again this summer. This year’s camp is for students entering first through seventh grades and takes place July 18-22 on the Brevard College campus.

Campus Adventures gives students the opportunity to broaden their perspectives and explore new ideas. The camp looks to spark the creative and inquiring spirit in each child in order to instill a love of learning.

Students can choose three, one-hour classes for the week that range from hip-hop dance fitness to learning how to make science experiments from household items. In the Afternoon Adventures session, students will rotate between three stations: “Stream Play,” “Game Time,” and “Life in a Stream.” Students will spend time outdoors exploring the campus and King’s Creek, all while learning.

“I can tell they enjoy the camp because they wake up in the morning excited to get ready to go,” said Laurie Bohn, whose three kids have been attending Campus Adventures for three years.

“I liked learning about animals in Animal World, and actually seeing and touching them made learning more fun,” said Bohn’s son, Steven.

For those students who have aged out of the summer camp, there is a teaching assistantship option. These eighth- through 12th-grade students help Camp Director Beth Banks with behind-the-scenes work, as well as assisting with both morning and afternoon classes.

“I heard so many kids over the years saying they were sad they wouldn’t be able to come back to camp the next year, so I developed the TA program for them,” said Banks, who is in her fifth year running the camp.

Registration will begin on May 1. Pricing ranges from $90 to $150 for half- and full -day sessions. To register, contact Beth Banks at campusadventures@brevard.edu.
