BREVARD, N.C.- Brevard men’s soccer withstood a late Averett push in order to come away with the 2-1 victory and pick up their sixth win of the season.
On offense the Tornados were able to tally more shots (17-8) and recorded more corner kicks (6-5) than the Cougars, which allowed more opportunities to score on the match. Defensively, Patrick Hall was able to notch four saves to pick up his third victory as the starting goalkeeper this season.
The scoring began in the 11th minute, as Anton Borjesson stole the ball from an Averett defender just outside the box, and found the back of the net to make the score 1-0.
Just before halftime in the 44th minute, Adam Spencer found Brock Tuttle on the left side of the field, as Tuttle drilled a shot in the upper left corner to increase the Brevard lead to two.
After recording a shutout for the first 70 minutes, an unfortunate bounce led to the Averett goal, which cut the Brevard lead in half.
As the clock was winding down inside 10 seconds, Averett fired a shot from 21 yards out, but the ball went well over the cross bar, and secured the Brevard victory.
The Tornados return to action October 25th, as they will host Pfieffer at 6 p.m.
