Scott Dangel has been named Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach at Brevard College, announced Director of Athletics Myranda Nash. Dangel will start in his new role at the helm of the Tornados men’s lacrosse program on August 1.
“We can’t wait to get Scott on campus as our next leader for the BC men’s lacrosse program,” said Myranda Nash, Brevard College Director of Athletics. “His expertise of the sport, strong recruiting ability, and relatability to student-athletes make Coach Dangel a fantastic fit.”
Dangel arrives at Brevard College following four seasons at Oglethorpe University, an NCAA Division III institution and member of the Southern Athletic Association, located in Atlanta. After spending 2021 as Defensive Coordinator and Head Recruiting Coordinator, Dangel led Oglethorpe as the program’s Head Coach for the past three seasons.
“I would like to thank Myranda Nash for this amazing opportunity at Brevard College,” said Dangel. “I am so excited to be a part of the Tornado family and can’t wait to get started.”
In his three seasons as Head Coach of Oglethorpe, Dangel led the Petrels to a 15-12 record in non-conference competition, including a 3-0 record in head-to-head matchups vs. Brevard. His tenure also included wins over USA South Conference members Huntingdon and William Peace in addition to Brevard.
As Defensive Coordinator in his first year at Oglethorpe, Dangel drastically lowered the team’s goals allowed per game from the previous season. In his first year as Head Coach, he guided the team’s offense to a 50 percent increase in scoring output. Throughout his tenure, Dangel guided several Petrels to individual success and awards. He coached the NCAA DIII saves-per-game leader at goalkeeper as well as the school’s career record holders in points, assists and face-off percentage.
Prior to Oglethorpe, Dangel’s coaching experience includes serving as Head Coach for Oak Mountain Varsity and Junior Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse in Birmingham, Alabama. He also gained valuable experience as a lacrosse camp instructor for the Miles Jones Roswell Lacrosse Camp, the Gamebreaker Georgia Gwinnett Lacrosse Camp and the Jordan Wolfe Pro Lacrosse Camp.
Dangel began his coaching journey as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at Shorter University where he was a four-year starting midfielder and a two-time captain during his collegiate playing career.
Dangel graduated from Shorter University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.
