About Dr. Nick Stow

Dr. Nick Stow is a native of Landrum, South Carolina and has earned music degrees from Clemson University, Appalachian State University, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His saxophone mentors include Dr. John Bleuel, Dr. Stephen Fischer, Dr. Scott Kallestad, and Dr. Paul Haar.

Dr. Stow promotes the pedagogy of Joe Allard which discovers each musician’s unique sound through a reduction of tension and a deeper understanding of the biological mechanisms used in playing wind instruments. He has been on the music faculty at many institutions across North Carolina and the country, including East Tennessee State University, Creighton University, Pfeiffer University, South Piedmont Community College, Mitchell Community College, and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. Dr. Stow is currently serving as the instructor of single reeds at Brevard College. As a woodwind specialist, he has performed with the Newton-Conover Community Band, Johnny Manhattan Orchestra, Lonny Lynn Orchestra, Brevard Community Band, the Blue Ridge Orchestra, and has appeared in the pit orchestra for Guys & DollsFar from HeavenBonnie & Clyde, and Lewis & Clark Part One: Manifest Destiny musical productions.

He also performs locally with Unpaid Bill & the Bad Czechs, the Heavy Lifters, and Nacho and the Stowaways. Dr. Stow is a member of the North American Saxophone Alliance, the College Music Society, and the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honors Society. Lastly, he maintains a private studio teaching saxophone, clarinet, flute, and composition to students ranging from 6th grade to adult learners. Dr. Stow lives in Brevard, North Carolina with his partner and many pets. He enjoys hiking, biking, paddling, camping, and everything in between.
