Freshman infielder Frankie Vasquez was selected as the USA South Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season after a big weekend as the Brevard College baseball team took two out of three from Covenant College.
Vasquez, a first-year third baseman, went a combined 6-for-13 (.462) with a .533 on-base percentage and a .692 slugging percentage to go along with three runs scored, five RBI, one home run, and two walks in the conference series win for Brevard.
Vasquez is batting .360 (31-for-86) in 23 starts this season with two home runs, six doubles, 19 runs scored, and 15 RBIs while maintaining a .424 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage. Vasquez ranks second on the team in batting average and doubles.
The accolade gives Brevard 25 USA South Conference weekly awards won by a Brevard College student-athlete in the 2021-22 season.
The Tornados are slated to return to play with a three-game series against nationally-ranked No. 4 LaGrange College at Gil Coan Field. Brevard and LaGrange kick off the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m.
