The Brevard College Tornados scored four runs in the 11th inning on their way to a 6-2 win over the Lenior-Rhyne Bears in a non-conference matchup Wednesday evening at Bears Field.

The Tornados broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 11th inning when Bennett Hixson executed a squeeze play that scored Kody Spencer, giving BC a one-run advantage. Ryan Ahlum singled with the bases loaded to bring in two more runs for the Tornados.

Bennett Hixson scored BC’s final run on another L-R fielding error, allowing BC a comfortable four-run lead going to the 11th.

Righty Carson Anderson walked the first batter in the 11th and gave up a single to put runners on first and third with no outs before being lifted in favor of Hixson (S, 1). The junior worked out of the jam with three straight outs to strand both runners.

Brevard College starter Hunter Donaldson earned a no decision, giving up a pair of runs through seven innings of work without issuing a walk. Chad Fisher (W, 1-0) earned the win after pitching a scoreless 10th.

Lenior-Rhyne relief pitcher Jake Chisum (L, 0-1) allowed four runs in the 11th, although none were earned after three L-R errors.

The Bears got two runs in the 2nd against Donaldson before BC’s Chip Helton answered with an RBI double in the 3rd to make it a one-run game. Brevard tied it at 2-2 on John Slade’s RBI groundout in the 6th.

The Tornados will be back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. to begin a South Atlantic Conference series with Newberry College at Smith Road Complex. BC will play a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, and finish the series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
