Brevard College Theatre will present rock musical Next to Normal with book and lyrics by
Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt on April 7, 8, and 9 at 7:00pm EST, and April 10 at 2:30pm EST. The
production will be held at the Morrison Playhouse in the Paul Porter Center for the Performing Arts.
Co-Directors Abbey Toot and Andrea Boccanfuso with Music Director Dan Toot bring us the compelling
narrative of a suburban household whose members might appear normal on the surface, but who
encounter powerful challenges in dealing with mental illness and grief. A startling, poignant journey
discussing bipolar disorder, pharmacological and other medicine, family, love, loss, and the very thin line
between hurting and healing, Next to Normal follows Diana Goodman, a housewife and mother whose
brilliance and selfhood have been influenced by the effects of bipolar disorder. Living lives around her
are Diana’s daughter Natalie, her son Gabe, and unswerving husband Dan, along with Natalie’s
endearing stoner boyfriend Henry and Diana’s Doctors Fine and Madden, both with their own approach
to her care.
You are also welcome to join us for a “step-out” process of releasing tension in the breath and body
after all performances, with two Brevard College Students who have, under Co-Director Toot’s
supervision, begun the Theatre Program’s “Care Team,” an effort hoped to continue for the Program
wherein Student and Faculty intention is concentrated to support the wellbeing of company members.
Tickets can be purchased online at brevardcollege.eventbrite.com or at the door, if available. Ticket
prices are $5 for students and $15 for the general public. To attend a Brevard College Theatre
