Brevard, NC resident Lin Kolb passed away in late July. She and her husband, Ken Kolb, were fixtures on the campus, attending athletic and fine arts events, as well as many other activities in support of faculty and students. Several of Lin’s friends suggested creating a scholarship and chose to focus on the Honors Program.
“The campus community was saddened to learn about the death of our friend and advocate Lin Kolb. It is only fitting that her desire to serve those around her continue through the establishment of the Lin Kolb Endowed Scholarship,” said Dr. David Joyce, president of Brevard College. “Lin was committed to her community and to the students of Brevard College. She spent much of her energy helping and engaging with students, and it is the aim of the scholarship created in her memory to recognize and honor her life of service.”
The Brevard College Honors Program accepts students who are passionate about service, learning and leadership. Students receive a scholarship and have the option to participate in honors-only extracurricular activities and live in specially – designated housing with fellow Honors scholars.
Jack T. Parker, a Trustee at Brevard College and long-time friend of the Kolbs, said: “As a fellow community member that cares deeply about our town and Brevard College, it made complete sense to honor Lin’s memory by creating a lasting legacy through an endowed scholarship. It is our hope that these funds will honor her life and will enable future students to pursue their studies and collegiate activities with the passion and enthusiasm that Lin demonstrated during her lifetime.”
