Brevard College Tornados Celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day

BC NGWSD

The Brevard College Department of Athletics proudly celebrates this year’s National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).  The Tornados will host a celebration at the next home athletics event – the Women’s Basketball game vs. N.C. Wesleyan on Friday, February 3 with tipoff set for 6 p.m. ET at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

At halftime of this Friday’s women’s basketball game, the student athletes from BC’s ten women’s sports will be recognized.  In addition, the multitude of women who are coaches and staff members within the Brevard College Department of Athletics will be celebrated as well.

Over the years, thousands of student athletes have competed in women’s sports at Brevard College, including the current offerings of basketball, cheerleading, cross country, cycling, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

Fifteen women currently hold positions in the BC Department of Athletics led by Director of Athletics Myranda Nash and Senior Woman Administrator Kristin Rosato.  Eleven women are coaches on this year’s 2022-23 coaching staffs.

As a further way to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the BC Department of Athletics staff was asked who they consider their favorite all-time athlete or coach from the world of women’s sports.  Answers ranged from Women’s Sports Foundation founder Billie Jean King to Women’s Basketball coaching legend Pat Summitt to 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams. (see complete list below)

National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) was chartered by the United States Congress in 1986 to honor female athletic achievement and recognize the importance of sports and fitness participants for all girls and women.  The year marks the 37th annual NGWSD celebration.
