Brevard College Cycling student-athletes Tyler Clark, Erica Leonard and Tyler Orschel were honored with a special presentation of custom national championship jerseys to commemorate the combined six individual USA Cycling national titles won by the Tornados this past season.
The three Brevard College student-athletes, all hailing from Canada, were presented with jerseys that combined the stars and stripes with the Canadian maple leaf. The jerseys were sponsored by the Brevard College Tornado Club and also adorned the logos of current BC Cycling sponsors Wahoo Fitness, LDC Landscape Design Company Co., and Sycamore Cycles. The jerseys were presented by Head Cycling Coach Brad Perley and Assistant Coach Cypress Gorry with the entire BC Cycling team in attendance.
At the 2021 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships held last October in Durango, Colorado, the Brevard College riders captured a total of five individual national championships, more than any other participating school. Orschel, a senior from Uxbridge, Ontario, won a total of three mountain bike individual championships with titles in the Men’s Varsity Individual Omnium (best overall rider), Cross Country, and Short Track Cross Country. Clark, a senior from King City, Ontario, who was the 2019 Individual Omnium national champion, won this season’s Men’s Varsity Downhill national title. Leonard, a senior from Barrie, Ontario, won the Women’s Varsity Downhill national championship.
Orschel then gave Brevard College a sixth individual 2021 national championship as he won his fourth national title with a victory at the 2021 USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships held this past December in Wheaton, Illinois.
As a team, the Tornados finished third in varsity competition at both the mountain bike and cyclocross national championships in 2021. Brevard was the highest finishing collegiate program located in the eastern half of the United States in both events.
The ten-time national champion Brevard College Cycling program features varsity programs in the disciplines of Mountain Bike, Cyclocross, and Gravel Racing.
