The Brevard rock climbing team had two individuals place in the top five on the women’s side, and Matthew Stephens place first in the speed and sport competitions on the men’s side as the team had a successful competition last Saturday in Nashville.
Schools from around the southeast participated in the event, as Brevard took on climbers from Middle Tennessee State, UT Chattanooga, Liberty, and host Belmont. The Tornados had multiple climbers finish in the top 10 in the speed and sport disciplines, on both the men’s and women’s side.
On the men’s side of the competition, Stephens finished in first place out of 27 climbers with 12400 points, followed by Nathan Boepple who came in 11th place with a score of 7700.
The Brevard women’s climbers were led by Lauren Fowler, who finished fourth place out of 16 climbers with a score of 7800. Gaby Lachney rounded out the top 10 with a score of 4500.
Stephens continued his success in the speed competition, as scaled the 50-foot wall in 10 seconds, which earned first place. Samuel Schaer placed eighth in the speed competition with a time of 14.13 seconds.
Lachney was the fastest Brevard female climber with a time of 19.25 seconds, which landed her fourth place.
