Gabriella Galvan is a Senior Business Major at Brevard College, with a minor in Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education (WLEE). She is active on campus as the President of the Student Government Association, a member of the Institute for Women in Leadership (IWIl) and a leader in Campus Life as a Senior Resident Advisor. From Hendersonville, North Carolina, her career goals include becoming an event and wedding planner, helping to make dreams come true on special days.
When she first visited Brevard College, she was struck by the small campus atmosphere. When she began to understand the breadth of leadership and scholarship opportunities available to her as a student, she was eager to apply. “What brought me to BC were the opportunities for work-study and IWIL, that not only offered a scholarship, but a way to build my leadership skills and step outside of my comfort zone to grow as an individual,” Galvan said.
In the classroom, Gabriella has been positively influenced by Brevard’s experiential learning model and credits both IWIL and WLEE courses with providing growth opportunities. “Both offered hands-on opportunities to be a leader and do something I thought I would never do. Those courses were challenging. We had to problem solve and work together to be successful, “ Galvan said.
Gabriella takes advantage of the mentorship available to her from Brevard College faculty. Her relationships with professors have inspired her to reach further than she thought she could. “They always give me opportunities they think would best fit me, or even challenge me, but will still help guide me when I am unsure of how to go about the next step,” Galvan said.
Around campus, Gabriella enjoys her various leadership roles and engaging with students, faculty, and staff at campus events. She said, “My favorite thing about campus is sharing time with my community of peers, and being a voice for them in Student Government. I also love the campus events like Harvest Fest and weekend trips with WLEE.”
Gabriella’s experiences as a student and leader at Brevard College have prepared her to reach her goals after graduation. I hope to start my own business and be the successful business woman I aspire to be. My major has prepared me to reach my goals by getting me ready and knowing what to expect in the business world. Meeting these amazing people at BC has helped me to want to become a better version of myself. And to continue to stand up for what I believe in and to speak up for what I believe is right, “ Galvan said.
