On Saturday, February 7, the Brevard College Climbing Team traveled to climbing venue The Crag in Nashville, TN for their first climbing competition of the semester. The team is a part of the USA Climbing Appalachian Division and competed in both the Recreational and Intermediate categories.

The Crag originally planned to host 30 competitors, but changed the competition format to two heats when 70 competitors reported. After the first heat climbed for an hour and a half, the second heat joined for another hour and a half. Each heat climbed for a total of three hours. The Brevard College Climbing Team participated in the first heat.

The Crag featured multiple overhangs, difficult transitions, challenging routes, and stiff competition, and many intermediate climbers were forced to beginner routes.

The Brevard College Climbing Team will compete again on February 21st at Western Carolina University, February 28th at the Brevard Rock Gym, and on March 27th at The University of Tennessee – Knoxville. Like always, the climbing team would like to invite all Brevard students to the Brevard Rock Gym on Tuesday evenings for Free Climb Night. Bring your student I.D.

Traveling team members included James Smith, Zif Clark, James Whaley, John Pate, Casey Whitmire, Lauren Fowler, Audrey Ashburner, and Laura Peterson. Professor Cameron Austin traveled with the team.
