Estevan Berto Named Men’s Soccer Assistant Coach

Estevan Berto

Estevan Berto has been named Assistant Coach for the Brevard College Men’s Soccer program, announced BC Head Men’s Soccer Coach Helio “L” D’Anna.  Berto, will be involved in all aspects of the program and also serve as Head Coach for the Brevard Men’s Soccer Reserves Program.

“Estevan has already hit the ground running,” said D’Anna. “He has been leading some of our sessions this spring, showing that he will step in and do the job quite nicely. The players are already adjusted to his coaching style.”

Berto’s elevation into his new role as Assistant Coach corresponds with the departure of Mario Pinto who served on Coach D’Anna’s staff for four seasons at BC.  Pinto was recently named the Head Coach of the AFC Lightning, a USPL team in Atlanta.

“Mario had a great stint at Brevard College and we deeply appreciate his service and dedication,” said D’Anna.  “I know Mario will continue his success as a coach moving forward.”

A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Berto arrives to the BC coaching staff after an illustrious playing career as a student-athlete at Brevard College.   Beginning with his freshman year, Berto served as a team captain, a role that allowed him to develop his leadership skills and foster team unity.  A starter in 32 career games, he scored seven career goals and was part of three USA South Conference titles (Spring 2021, Fall 2022 and Fall 2023).

In 2021, Berto scored a dramatic goal as part of Brevard’s win over Covenant in the USA South West Division championship.  He went on to be named an All-State selection by the North Carolina College Sports Information Association as well as collecting honors from the USA South Conference.  Last season, Berto played in 13 games with seven starts, recording two goals and an assist for the Tornados who advanced to the USA South Conference finals.

“I identify strongly with Brevard College, having been here since the program’s arrival to NCAA Division III,” said Berto.  “I now look forward to contributing to further growth of the BC Men’s Soccer program.”

Berto graduated from Brevard College in 2024 with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science.  He is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Health and Human Performance, also from BC.
