Brevard College faculty member Jason DeCristofaro will host the Asheville Composer’s Concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday July 21 at St Matthias Episcopal Church in Asheville.

The concert is free to the public, with a suggested $10 donation.

DeCristofaro created the concert in 2010. Since then, it has become an annual tradition, featuring local composers in Asheville and Western North Carolina.

Two of his compositions, “Moto Perpetuo for Solo Viola” and “Trio for Bassoon, Vibraphone and Marimba,” will make their world premiere at this concert.  The latter work will feature Brevard College Fine Arts Division Chair Dr. Laura Franklin on marimba and Rosalind Buda, a new instructor of bassoon in the BC Music Department.

The concert will also feature local composers Matthew Richmond, Tim Winter, Michael Jefry Stevens as well as Dosia McKay, who will be premiering her work, “First in Flight,” for string quartet and vibraphone.  This piece, written for and dedicated to DeCristofaro, will feature him as the soloist for the performance’s finale.
