When Chef Michael Fahey joined the Brevard College staff, the college gained not only a Certified Executive Chef but also a culinary educator, known for his creativity and interesting menus. His love of food and cooking was kindled in his family’s kitchen during his childhood in Chicago, Illinois. He said, “I got interested in cooking when my grandfather let me help him cook Thanksgiving dinner.” The recent Thanksgiving meals prepared in Myers Dining Hall were surely extra tasty due to Chef’s influence in the kitchen!
Chef Fahey is passionate about education and has worked in the hospitality industry for over 30 years in New York City, Palm Beach, Cincinnati, North Carolina, and most recently, in Key West where he consulted with Key West Community College to start a culinary arts program. In his new role at Brevard College, he’d like to combine his past experience in education and his love of cooking to expand experiential education opportunities for students. He said, “If I had the time and resources, I’d love to create a hospitality internship program here at BC.”
As an American Culinary Federation Certified Executive Chef, the industry standard in the United States, Chef Michael also holds important distinctions such as Certified Food Manager from ServSafe and American Culinary Federation Culinary Educator. During the course of his long career, he’s cooked for Vice President, Dan Quayle, Florida, New York, and North Carolina State Governors, President Donald Trump, Tina Turner, Neil Young, James Taylor, and Jimmy Buffet – and now he’s cooking for the Brevard College community!
When he’s not working, he enjoys writing, hiking, and exploring the outdoors. So far, Chef Michael’s favorite aspect of his job is the people he’s met in the campus community. He said, “Meeting and working with my boss and co-workers here at Brevard College has changed my life for the better.”
