BREVARD, N.C. – A program-record six Brevard College women’ soccer student-athletes have been named 2022 Academic All-District performers, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA). Brevard College’s Channing Barker, Grace Black, Maddy Edwards, Alyssa Hetherington, Abbie Worsencroft and Autumn Wright were all named to the Academic All-District team for the Fall 2022 season. All six Tornados now advance to the ballot for the 2022 CSC Academic All-America team.
The Academic All-District team is part of the Academic All-America program that has been honoring outstanding academic and athletic achievement by student-athletes throughout the landscape of college sports since 1952. The Women’s Soccer Academic All-America teams will be announced in early December.
Barker, a defender/midfielder from Dunlap, Tennessee, is a junior majoring in Environmental Science. She played in 16 games this season, making seven starts and recording an assist in a win over Warren Wilson.
A junior forward from Charleston, South Carolina, Black is majoring in Health Science at BC. On the field in 2022, Black was second on the team with seven goals and 16 points.
Edwards is a sophomore forward from Warrenton, Virginia who majors in Exercise Science. Playing in 19 matches with nine starts, she scored a goal and recorded an assist in 2022.
Hetherington is a senior set to graduate with a degree in Biology from Brevard College. The native of Marietta, Georgia played midfield and forward for the Tornados, scoring eight goals and registering nine assists in her BC career.
A junior defender from West Union, South Carolina, Worsencroft is an Exercise Science major at Brevard. Worsencroft, who has scored four goals in her BC career, helped anchor a defense that held opponents to a 0.84 goals-against-average this season.
Wright hails from Ellicott City, Maryland and is majoring in Environmental Science at BC. The junior midfielder/defender was also a key part of BC’s defense which held opponents to 11 shutouts in 2022.
The 2022 Academic All-District Women’s Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
