Brevard College student Kara Fohner recently earned second place from the North Carolina College Media Association’s Statewide College Media Contest for her opinion writing.
“We’re all very proud of Kara for this accomplishment,” said John Padgett, associate professor of English and faculty adviser for The Clarion, the college’s student newspaper. “This is only our second year submitting to the NCCMA college newspaper competition, and both times, she has been recognized for her work.”
The award-winning opinion piece, “Take Back the Power: Sexual Assault, Society, and the Importance of Storytelling,” was published in the Nov. 19, 2014, edition of The Clarion. Fohner, a senior studying English and Education, was editor in chief at the time. Fohner is no stranger to honors for her writing – in 2013, she received an honorable mention for Feature Writing in the NCCMA’s competition.
