Brevard College announces and celebrates three students’ unique achievement as published authors. Undergraduates Miles Schafer ‘23, Paige Edwards ‘25, and Paige Kneubuhler ‘25 were each selected to produce written pieces that appear online for an international audience.

“It’s unusual to have undergraduates be published, not just here but anywhere,” commented Dr. Jordan Kuck, Associate Professor of History, Chair of the Humanities Division, and Director of the Honors Program at Brevard College. “I don’t know if these students fully realize the significance of their experience yet, working with a professional editing team and being treated like professionals. Most scholars don’t get that until they are working on their PhD.”

“All three are really intellectual history pieces,” explained Kuck. Schafer’s article covers dark money in global politics, with a particular emphasis on the United States. Edwards’s piece investigates the socio-political origins of terrorism. Kneubuhler’s essay compares the political rhetoric of the far-right political party Alternative for Germany with that of the Nazi Party.

The students’ work was published in Release Peace: The Magazine over the summer and fall. The digital magazine is produced by Release Peace, a nongovernmental organization in Europe. Brevard College partnered with the organization in Spring 2024 to participate in their annual virtual conference. The student articles are a continuation of that ongoing relationship.

“Our partnership with Release Peace has been a rewarding experience for both our faculty and our students,” remarked Dr. Jennifer Frick-Ruppert, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty. “We are extremely proud of how well they have represented Brevard College to the global community.”
