The Brevard College women’s lacrosse team (2-1) won its first road contest of the 2022 season with a 20-15 victory over host Randolph (1-1) on Saturday afternoon in Lynchburg, Virginia. Six different players scored for the Tornados who hit the 20-goal mark for the second time this season. Senior midfielder KC Collins led all players with six goals to match her career high. Collins, who also scored six goals in the 2022 season-opening win over Sweet Briar, added two assists en route to a game-high eight points. Collins was highly efficient with her shooting, scoring on six of her nine shots of the afternoon. Junior attacker Parker Moore delivered a big afternoon on the offensive end as well, scoring five goals to go along with two assists. The five goals also matched a career-high in a Tornado uniform for Moore. Freshmen Emily Denega and Dani Stavely each scored three goals with Denega adding an assist and the goal total marking a career-high for Stavely. Savannah Colliver registered two goals and an assist, while Grace Vaught was a key distributor as well with two assists, while scoring a goal. Freshman goalkeeper Lexi Maclauchlin (2-1) earned her second win of the season and recorded eight saves. After a scoreless opening three minutes, Collins scored her first goal off an assist by junior Ashton Cashwell to give BC a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats responded with three consecutive goals, all within one minute of play, to take a two-goal lead. BC battled back however with a goal by Colliver followed by an equalizer by Stavely off an assist from Vaught. Tied 3-3, BC then outscored Randolph 3-1 over the final five minutes of the first period to take a 6-4 lead with goals coming from Collins, Colliver and Moore. Moore had the hot hand in the second period, scoring three of BC’s seven goals in the stanza. Collins also scored in the period taking advantage of a man-up situation to go along with back-to-back assists finding Vaught and Stavely. Following the impressive 7-4 advantage in the second quarter, Brevard led 13-8 at the intermission. The Wildcats scored the first goal of the third period, but BC answered with three straight goals take a 16-9 lead. The Tornados went on another three-goal scoring run to start the fourth quarter as Collins found the back of the net for her sixth goal followed by back-to-back goals by Denega. Randolph attempted a comeback late, however the nine-goal lead was too much to overcome as BC claimed the 20-15 win. BC outshot Randolph 36-31 for the entirety of the contest with a 21-17 advantage in the first half. Randolph collected more ground balls with a 15-12 advantage in the statistical category. Brevard returns to action on Sunday, March 6 with a non-conference contest vs. Lake Forest at 12 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
