Women’s Basketball: Williams, Lockwood Earn USA South Conference Postseason Accolades

Destiny Williams

Brevard College women’s basketball student-athletes Destiny Williams and Avery Lockwood each earned accolades by the USA South Conference as part of the league’s 2021-22 All-Conference awards.  Williams, a graduate forward from Aiken, South Carolina, was named USA South Conference First Team West Division.  Lockwood, a senior center from Foxworth, Mississippi, was named to the USA South All-Sportsmanship Team.

Williams led the Tornados with 16.8 points-per-game, 8.0 rebounds-per-game and 3.3 steals-per-game in 2021-22.  She ranked third in the conference in scoring and led the league with 87 total steals on the season.

Williams concluded her career as one of the most accomplished BC women’s basketball players in program history.  Williams is BC’s all-time leader in career rebounds (689) and tied for the school record in career steals with 267. Williams ranks second at Brevard in career points (1,302) while placing third in offensive rebounds (205) and blocks (83). She also scored 20 or more points in a game 16 times, registered four 30-plus point scoring games, and totaled 18 double-doubles in her Tornado career.

Lockwood pulled down 123 rebounds and dished out 25 assists this season to play a key part in BC’s run to the quarterfinals of the USA South Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament.  Lockwood made her mark in the school record books as well landing in the top-five in career rebounds (472), defensive rebounds (331), and offensive boards (141) for the Tornados.

Both Williams and Lockwood are strong performers in the classroom as well, both having been named to the 2020-21 USA South Conference All-Academic Team.

2021-22 marked the most successful season in Brevard College women’s basketball’s NCAA history as the Tornados hosted its first-ever postseason game and won a USA South Conference tournament game for the first time. Head Coach Donald Hudson became the program’s all-time winningest coach in the NCAA-era earlier this season, as the fifth-year Brevard alumnus led the Tornados to a school-record (NCAA era) 15 wins this year.  This season, BC WBB won the program’s most home games (eight), away games (six), and conference games (eight) in the NCAA era en route to a record-shattering 15-win season.
