The women’s tennis team (11-12) concluded its successful 2021-22 season on Thursday afternoon, falling 9-0 to Averett University (12-4) in the Quarterfinals of the 2022 USA South Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament, held at the Rome Tennis Center on the campus of Berry College in Rome, Georgia. The Cougars took an early 3-0 lead after doubles action before sweeping through singles play en route to the 9-0 team victory. Number-one doubles duo Hamrick Perry and Sophie Trantham won a pair of games in an 8-2 defeat, while the number-two doubles team of Brooke Garland and Hannah Hersh also claimed a game in their match. The Cougars took number-one singles and number-three singles in straight-set, sweeping fashion 6-0, 6-0, and cruised in numbers two, four. and six singles as well. The closest match of the afternoon pitted Trantham against Keira Gunning in number-five singles. Trantham narrowly fell 7-5 in set number one before Gunning earned a 6-1 victory in the second set to win the match. The loss concludes Brevard’s highly-successful 2021-22 women’s tennis season. The Tornados finished with 11 overall team wins, marking BC’s sixth double-digit winning season since joining the NCAA ranks in 2008.
