The Brevard College women’s tennis team (9-10, 3-2 USAS) continued its winning ways with an 8-0 sweep of host Agnes Scott College (2-9, 2-3 USAS) in USA South Conference action on Saturday at the Byers Tennis Courts in Decatur, Georgia. With the win, the Tornados have now won seven of their last nine matches dating back to March 6.
Brevard jumped on ASC with an early lead as the number two doubles team of freshman Hannah Hersh and junior Brooke Garland won 8-0 without dropping a single game. The number one doubles team of freshman Sophie Trantham and junior Hamrick Perry continued its strong season as well with an 8-4 victory. BC won no. 3 doubles via a default as the Tornados were unopposed for that match.
BC took a 3-0 lead into singles play, needing just two more match wins to clinch the conference win. The Tornados executed the task handily, winning all five singles matches in straight sets.
Hersh won number one singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win, while junior Alli Kogoy lost just one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 win in no. 2 singles. Garland won 6-1, 6-2 in number three singles, while Trantham blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in no. 4 singles. Sophomore Melody Ferguson rounded out the dominance in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in number five singles.
In all, the Tornados outscored the Scotties 60-11 in games throughout the five matches in singles play.
Two matches remain for the Brevard College women’s tennis team beginning with a home match vs. Huntingdon on Friday, April 15 at 1 p.m. The regular-season finale will follow on Tuesday, April 19 at 3:30 p.m. when the Tornados host Maryville at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
