Brevard Alumni Rekindle School Spirit During Homecoming Weekend

Homecoming22 (1)

Brevard College is excited to announce its upcoming Homecoming Weekend, a highly anticipated annual event for alumni and friends of the college that promises a celebration of memories, opportunities to reconnect with old friends and professors, and events honoring outstanding achievements of those who embody our motto, “Learn in Order to Serve.”

Festivities kick-off on Friday, Sept. 22 at 5:30pm with the Brevard College Awards Ceremony in the Francis Pavilion of The Paul Porter Center for Performing Arts (pre-registration is required). The event acknowledges outstanding graduates and friends of the College who have made a significant impact in various fields. This year’s recipients include Sharon and Carlos Perez ’63 (Distinguished Alumni), Dr. John Buford, and Dr. Robert “Bob” White, posthumously (Distinguished Faculty), as well as Athletic Hall of Fame inductees Scott Dvorak ’89 (Cross Country / Track & Field), Ray Gill ’05 (Baseball), and Joh Tuttle Tyson ’10 (Cycling).

Following the ceremony, everyone is invited to join BC alumni and friends at Oskar Blues Brewery (342 Mountain Industrial Drive) for a “Welcome Home Party” at 6:00pm, featuring live tunes by Admiral Radio.

Homecoming Weekend serves as a heartfelt reunion for Brevard College alumni, providing them with good reasons to revisit the campus as a place that holds a special place in their hearts. It’s a time to rekindle cherished memories and for former classmates to reconnect, many of whom may not have seen each other in years. Of special note, BC will host a “Golden Club” brunch on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 10:00am exclusively for alumni who graduated 50+ years ago. Honored guests this year will be the Brevard College graduating Class of 1973.

The vibrant atmosphere of Homecoming Weekend is complemented by exciting sporting events, where alumni and current students come together to cheer on “Nado Nation” and their beloved NCAA DIII teams. Tailgating parties add to the festivities, providing a chance for alumni to share in the camaraderie and school spirit. The public is invited to join at Ives-Lemel Family Field to watch the Tornados football team compete against the Maryville College Scots; parking opens at 2:00pm and kick-off is scheduled for 5:00pm.

As always, Brevard College extends a warm welcome to alumni and their families, ensuring that Homecoming is a memorable experience for all generations. Family-friendly activities like tours of new campus facilities make it an ideal occasion for alumni to introduce their loved ones to their alma mater. Homecoming also offers alumni opportunities to give back to Brevard College through donations, volunteering, and other forms of support, ensuring the college’s continued growth and success.

Homecoming Weekend wraps up on Sunday, Sept. 23. Two traditional worship services at 8:30am and 11:00am will be held at Brevard First United Methodist Church (325 N. Broad Street), led by The Rev. Dr. Sharad Creasman ’06, campus minister at Brevard College, with an additional Celebration Praise Service starting at 8:45am.
