In the 2019-20 academic year, Brevard College will begin the final year of the reclassification process to become full-time members of NCAA Division III. The advancement to year four of the process came as a result of an action by the NCAA Division III Membership Committee to permit Brevard College to waive one year of the four-year participation requirement and to bypass year three of the provisional membership process.
The committee confirmed that Brevard College “has fulfilled all requirements for provisional membership in the 2018-19 academic year and has demonstrated readiness to proceed to the final year of the process.”
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to move into year four of the provisional membership process,” said Myranda Nash, Director of Athletics. “I would like to thank President David Joyce, the executive leadership team, and all of Brevard College for supporting us in this campus-wide effort. I would also like to thank Commissioner Tom Hart and the USA South Athletic Conference for their guidance through the reclassifying process.”
As a result of bypassing year three of the provisional membership process, the Tornados will strive to gain active NCAA Division III membership in the 2020-21 academic year which will coincide with fully active status in the USA South Athletic Conference. Active membership in NCAA Division III and USA South Athletic Conference will provide the Tornados with eligibility for all conference postseason championships and bids for NCAA championships.
In the 2019-20 academic year, Brevard College will continue to compete in the USA South Athletic Conference in the regular season and remain eligible for weekly and postseason conference awards. Brevard will also remain a member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) in 2019-20, giving the Tornados the opportunity to qualify for ECAC postseason championships and awards.
