Brevard College Alumni Association Board Members Establish Annual Scholarship

President David C. Joyce and President of the Brevard College Alumni Association, Jenny Munro, sign the scholarship agreement.

Brevard College announced that the Brevard College Alumni Association Board made history by creating the first named scholarship in the Board’s history. Members of the BCAA Board remember what a difference a BC education has meant in their lives, and want to make sure that the ensuing generations of students have the same opportunities.

The Brevard College Alumni Association comprises of alumni who span from 1945-2013. The mission of the board is to connect alumni to the college and one another, foster connections between alumni, students, and faculty, and to support the college’s mission: “Brevard College is committed to an experiential liberal arts education that encourages personal growth and inspires artistic, intellectual, and social action.”

Members have committed to the annual scholarship for five years, after which they will review their experience and determine if a BCAA endowed scholarship is the appropriate next step. The Named Annual Scholarship Program at the college requires a minimum of $1,000 a year for a five-year period, although many donors contribute much more. The annual program allows gifts to be applied immediately to students’ financial aid.

“Whether annual or perpetually endowed,” says Maggie Will, chair of the Board’s development committee, “we wanted to demonstrate tangibly to alumni and to current students that BCAA Board members represent the goal of the alumni association to partner with the college in supporting students from admission to graduation.” The Board hopes to meet the first BCAA Board Scholarship recipient at Homecoming this coming fall.

Scholarships at Brevard College make it more attainable for students to receive an experiential education at the institution. For more information on contributing to or creating a scholarship at Brevard College, please contact Jeff Joyce at (828) 641-0170.
