Brevard College is pleased to announce that the class of 1968 has surpassed their fundraising goal of $25,000 to create a class scholarship to help future students. The Class of 1968 Endowed Scholarship began as an idea when Jackie Lawing Jones ’68 and Roger Jones ’68 of Lynchburg, VA and Ann Maiden Jones ’68 and Ned Jones ’68 of Greensboro, NC (the couples share no relation) got together to begin planning their class’s 50th reunion.
“A 50-year reunion is a very special event and causes you to reflect on so many aspects of your life. Brevard College impacted my life in so many profound ways. I met my husband, gained an appreciation for hard work and developed relationships that have lasted a lifetime. This time at Brevard College also helped form my life’s value system through my experiences with my classmates and the faculty at the school. Brevard College was a special place at a very special time for our class so we wanted to “give back” to the college, that had changed so many of our lives and set us up for success, so that future generations of students could have that experience too.” –Jackie Jones ‘68
The class embraced the challenge of raising the necessary $25,000 and began contributing their dollars to help students. Over the course of the last three years over 115 unique gifts have been made by members of the class to get the scholarship fully funded. Endowed scholarships at the college last in perpetuity and will help provide financial assistance to deserving students for decades to come.
“It is so meaningful to work with alumni whose lives have been so impacted by Brevard College that they are willing to give of their time, energy, and resources to ensure current and future students have the same opportunities that they enjoyed. I am blown away by the response from the Class of 1968 and celebrate with them in the achievement of reaching their goal.” Jeff Joyce, Director of Development.
