The ensemble has earned a number of impressive awards for chamber music, including their most recent, the 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant. The quartet is comprised of violinists Jeffrey Myers and Ryan Mehan, violist Jeremy Berry, and cellist Estelle Choi.
The Washington Post reviewed the ensemble’s debut performance at the Kennedy Center saying, “Four more individual musicians are unimaginable, yet these speak, breathe, think and feel as one…The grateful audience left enriched and, I suspect, a little more human than it arrived.”
The Calidore String Quartet gained international acclaim as winner of the $100,000 Grand Prize of the 2016 Inaugural M-Prize International Chamber Music Competition, the largest prize for chamber music in the world. The Calidore has continuously garnered prestigious awards, including grand prizes in all of the major U.S. chamber music competitions, the Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award, and the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists. The quartet has collaborated with many esteemed artists and ensembles. During the 2017-2018 season, The Calidore premiered string quartets written for the ensemble by pulitzer-prize winning composer Caroline Shaw.
Performing throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, the Calidore String Quartet has graced world-renowned stages, from Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall to Cologne Philharmonie and Seoul’s Kumho Arts Hall.
