The Brevard College Student Chamber Winds will perform a concert Thursday March 19, 7:30pm at the Porter Center for Performing Arts. Special guests will be the Rosman High School Concert Band under the direction of Katerina Canter. Admission is free and open to the public.
The Rosman High School Concert Band program includes Quincy Hilliard’s Los Banditos, Elliot Del Borgo’s Night Cries, and Ed Kiefer’s An Irish Legend. “We are delighted to host the wonderful student musicians and their director from Rosman High School. I was very impressed with the band’s performance at our recent concert band invitational. This musical collaboration will provide the audience with a unique variety of modern and standard works for chamber winds and concert band” said Dr. Eric Peterson- Director of Bands at Brevard College.
The Brevard College Student Chamber Winds program features compositions by non-American composers. Selections include Renaissance composer Tielman Susato’s selections from The Danseyre written in 1551, Yosuke Fukuda’s contemporary Spring tone poem Pastorale Printemps, a joyful arrangement of Hungarian and Slovak children’s folk songs composed by Bela Bartok, and Claude Debussy’s popular Golliwogg’s Cakewalk from his six movement piano suite Children’s Corner. A flute trio featuring the music of Alessandro Scarlatti and Daiki Kato’s exciting The Last Game for Percussion Trio rounds out the program.
