The Brevard College cycling team won its second consecutive USA Cycling Division IICollegiate Mountain Bike National Championship on Sunday after earning 835 points in the Overall Team Omnium.
The championship marks the fourth Division II Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championship for BC in the last five years.
Western State Colorado University was the closest competitor in the three-day event, amassing only 617 points on their way to a second place finish in the Team Omnium.
Erica Zaveta paced the Tornados with the Women’s Individual Omnium Championship, gathering a total of 574 points after winning the Short Track race on Friday and the Downhill race on Saturday. Zaveta finished third in Saturday’s Cross Country event.
The senior also helped the Tornados win today’s Team Relay as part of a group comprised of Lewis Gaffney, Zach Valdez and Sarah Hill. Hill was another top performer for BC, earning a third place finish in the Women’s Individual Omnium after finishing third in Short Track and fourth in Cross Country.
Valdez captured an Individual National Championship in the men’s Short Track and Cross Country races. Dylan Johnson and Gaffney followed Valdez to third and fourth place finishes in the Cross Country event, respectively.
Brevard’s Daniel Ennis earned an Individual National Championship with a win the Dual Slalom race and was followed by teammate Mac Banner, who finished in second place. Ennis finished in second while Banner earned third place in the Downhill event as well.
