oseph Marvin has been named Sports Information Director at Brevard College, announced Phil de Montmollin, Assistant Athletic Director for Communications. Marvin had previously served as Director of Digital Media/Assistant Sports Information Director for the Tornados.
“This is a well-deserved promotion for Joseph Marvin, one of the rising stars in the college sports communications profession,” said de Montmollin. “So much of what happens behind the scenes and the media content that our supporters enjoy is the result of Joseph’s hard work, dedication, and passion for the Tornados. We applaud Joseph for all of his efforts in publicizing BC Athletics over the past five seasons and look forward to the season ahead.”
Marvin will be entering his sixth overall season at Brevard in 2023-24, having arrived at BC in August of 2018 as one of the youngest full-time sports information professionals in the nation. After one year at BC, he was promoted to Digital Media Director/Assistant SID for the Tornados.
In his new role, Marvin will continue to cover all of Brevard College’s 19 varsity-level sports. His capacity at Brevard includes managing game-day staff, day-to-day publicity, overseeing sports statistics, developing publications, programs, graphics, social media, production for live streams, and student-athlete award nominations.
During his first year of work at Brevard College, Marvin immediately oversaw numerous responsibilities in the BC Sports Information Office. He was responsible for all home-game press box operations, as well as statistical input for all of Brevard’s NCAA-sponsored sports.
Marvin has produced hundreds of live-streamed athletic contests and other video elements, initiating the ever-growing Brevard College Tornados YouTube channel. Year in and year out, Marvin has worked with de Montmollin to continue to set school audience records with around-the-clock athletic coverage on Brevard College Athletics’ social media platforms of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
In addition to these responsibilities, Marvin helps maintain all website content as well as the writing and publication of previews, recaps, and breaking news on bctornados.com as well as the distribution of content to local and regional media outlets. Marvin is currently spearheading a complete redesign of bctornados.com, the official website of Brevard College Athletics.
Prior to arriving at Brevard, Marvin served as a Media Relations Game Day Assistant at Western Carolina University from 2015 to 2018 where he was responsible for game day functions such as statistical inputting, clock/scoreboard operations, and spotting for the Catamount basketball, football, baseball, softball, soccer, and volleyball teams. He also assisted in functions with marketing, video production, and game day operations at WCU. Alongside his work at Western Carolina, Marvin developed six-plus years of retail sales experience.
A five-year member of College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), Marvin also assists area colleges and universities in game-day statistical duties. Moreover, Marvin serves as an official scorer and statistician for the Asheville Tourists, the High-A minor league baseball affiliate of the Houston Astros.
Marvin graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Carolina University in December of 2018, holding a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Sport Management and a minor in Economics.
