A program-best three student-athletes from the Brevard College women’s tennis team have been named 2022-23 Academic All-District performers, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA).  Brevard College tennis student-athletes Brooke Garland, Hannah Hersh and Sophie Trantham were all named to the Academic All-District team for the 2022-23 season.  All three Tornado women’s tennis student-athletes now advance to the ballot for the 2022-23 CSC Academic All-America team.

The Academic All-District team is part of the Academic All-America program that has been honoring outstanding academic and athletic achievement by student-athletes throughout the landscape of college sports since 1952.  The Women’s Tennis CSC Academic All-America teams will be announced in June.

Garland, a graduating senior from Canton, North Carolina, recently earned her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Brevard College.  Garland served as the Vice President of BC’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was named the Female Perfect Storm Award winner as the college’s most outstanding student-athlete both on the field and in the classroom. At last week’s Commencement, Garland was honored with the Presidential Award for Scholarship which honors graduating seniors with the highest academic rank, based on GPA for all coursework completed.

Hersh, a junior academically and a sophomore athletically, is a Health Science major at BC.  Hailing from Estero, Florida, Hersh was a first-team All-USA South Conference selection this season after compiling the third-best record (13-7) in number one singles in the conference, while posting an overall singles record of 15-7.

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Trantham is a sophomore majoring in Criminal Justice.  In addition to her excellence in the classroom, Trantham’s success on the court included a 15-5 singles record and a 14-8 doubles record this year.

The 2022-23 Academic All-District Tennis teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
