Senior left-handed pitcher Matthew Scavotto garnered USA South Pitcher of the Week honors following an impressive weekend outing vs. Washington and Lee.
The honor joins Scavotto’s previous conference honors, as the Charlotte, North Carolina native was a three-time USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week honoree in 2019.
Scavotto tossed five shutout innings as the starter in an 8-7 win over Washington and Lee. The senior allowed just three hits with two strikeouts on his ledger.
The outing improved an already impressive start to Scavotto’s senior campaign, as the southpaw is 2-0 through 17 innings pitched, allowing just one earned run with 12 strikeouts and a 0.53 ERA.
Scavotto and the Tornados will return to play for a three-game series against Greensboro College. Brevard and the Pride will begin their series with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at 2 and 5 p.m. at Truist Point – the home of the High Point Rockers in High Point, North Carolina.
