The Brevard College Teacher Education Program is pleased to announce that Kortney Conner was selected as the recipient of Alpha Delta Kappa’s Louise Dockery Memorial Scholarship.
Conner, a senior History major from Franklin, N.C., is pursuing a secondary teacher licensure in Social Studies at Brevard College. She is a four-year member of the Women’s Varsity Volleyball team and served as captain during last year’s season. In addition to her athletic involvement at Brevard College, Conner also is a member of the honorary society Alpha Chi, serving as acting president for 2013-14, and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, a National Leadership Honor Society. Conner is also a member of Brevard College’s Institute for Women in Leadership (IWIL), and has spent time in local schools mentoring and tutoring Transylvania County students.
Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) is an international honorary organization of women educators dedicated to educational excellence, altruism and world understanding. The Louise Dockery Memorial Scholarship was started by the Beta Epsilon Chapter of ADK, to honor Louise Dockery, a beloved Transylvania County educator and member of the ADK Sorority.
Each year, ADK awards a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating high school student entering the field of education, or a college student currently in the field of education. Applicants are judged on academic achievement, service to community, integrity and leadership potential as well as financial need.
Upon graduation, Conner hopes to quickly emerge herself into the world of teaching and become an active member of her academic community.
